Sheridan Drive Commercial District

The Amherst Industrial Development Agency (AIDA) received a grant through the New York State Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA) Program to conduct a Pre-Nomination Study in the Sheridan Drive Commercial District, which is defined as the area between Niagara Falls Boulevard and Sweet Home Road along Sheridan Drive and Eggert Road.

Revitalization of the Town’s mature commercial areas and neighborhoods is a primary goal of the AIDA and the Town of Amherst and is a major focus of the Town’s recently accepted Bicentennial Comprehensive Plan. The proposed BOA is located in one of these mature areas and is characterized by numerous vacant commercial buildings and commercial properties. Based upon the availability of adequate infrastructure, at or below market rate rents, and the continued vibrancy of commercial areas surrounding the proposed BOA, the AIDA and Town believe this study is needed to determine the effects of possible environmental contamination as an impediment to redevelopment and reinvestment in the area.

The first public meeting seeking input on the plan occurred on July 12, 2007. A second public meeting took place on Tuesday, August 19, 2008.  Presentation materials and draft documents from this meeting are available below:
